Each Wednesday at exactly 12 Noon lunch is served in the Church Hall for elderly members of the village. Four teams of willing volunteers, ably led by Mrs. Janet Ramskill, are fulfilling Mrs Celia Askham's dream. Early in 1991 she suggested at the Family Committee that there was a need for a Luncheon Club. The idea was put to the Neighbourhood Committee and after long discussions with Social Services it was felt that it was possible to serve meals on a regular basis. A freezer was bought, new cooker installed, attractive china purchased and with all the necessary cooking utensils and the support of the Church the Luncheon Club was launched on May1st 1991.

Over a decade later the club is  still very popular. Each week twenty to twenty five people enjoy a social occasion and a good lunch served at 12 Noon on the dot. By the time the potatoes and vegetables are cooked, the custard thickened (hopefully) gravy prepared, the pudding is warming, the pork, turkey, beef and lamb have reached the required temperature everyone relaxes and the meal begins.

The cooks were delighted with the new oven purchased earlier this year although it has given them a few anxious moments! The club is non-profit making and at £2.00 for a 2 course meal followed by tea and biscuits everyone seems happy.
